How do I ask him out?

So there's this guy that works in a store I frequent. We get along really well and we have a lot in common, from our music preference to being Xbox 360 gamers and even wearing the same type of bracelets. The thing is, I'd really like to get to know him better than just what we talk about in the store. He always acts like he wants to spend more time with me, but he gets nervous and clams up before we can go any further. I'm the same way. If we can't go out, I'd at least like to be friends with the guy. What should I do about this? Can I get him to go further? I'm just too scared to ask! 

A good way round this would be to invite him to an event or venue of common interest, like a gaming shop or convention. Break the ice by asking questions about his life - personal tastes, where he grew up, that kinda thing. That way you don't have to keep thinking of interesting things to say and he will be talking about something he knows well - himself! When you think you're ready and at a good moment, ask him if he'd like to kiss you. Good luck!
